What does it mean when your teeth are sensitive to cold?

This usually means that you have what is call gum recession, or that you are clenching or grinding your teeth.

Gum recession is usually caused by brushing too hard so make sure if this is the case that you purchase an electric toothbrush with a pressure indicator on it so you will be more aware of your brushing habits!

A second cause of cold sensitivity is clenching or grinding your teeth. Clenching/grinding can wear away the enamel on the surface of your teeth, thus exposing the middle layer of the tooth and creating sensitivity. In our office we make awesome custom nightguards to protect against tooth wear for clencher/ grinders and you don’t even need to take a goopy impression because it is all done with our 3D scanner!
