Not a great flosser? Are you always told that you really could improve your gum health? Are you looking to get the most out of your visits with your dentist? Our new LBR therapy is a painless treatment that can be added to the beginning of any hygiene visit to help maximize gum health and even make your cleanings easier and more comfortable! And the best part is, it’s extremely affordable and painless!

How are Lasers used in Dentistry?

A dental laser is sitting on top of a white table.

We recently added two new laser units to our practice designed specifically for dentistry. Our units are designed by Biolase and are two of the newest lasers on the market! These lasers can be used in so many different ways, such as gum lifts, during scaling and root planing, to help with muscle tightness, and to heal gum tissue! (See treatments page for more info). We can use them to help with TMJ, to remove areas of overgrown tissue, and to help minimize gum disease.

How Does it Work?

A woman wearing sunglasses is getting her teeth examined by a dentist.

With the LBR (Laser Bacterial Reduction) procedure, we use the light portion of the laser to “trace” the gumline of the teeth. The laser light penetrates the gum tissue and kills harmful bacteria under the gums. It instantly reduces inflammation and bleeding and disrupts the attachment of the plaque to the tooth. It also helps the prevent transfer of bacteria from one tooth to another during the cleaning as well.

Who is This Treatment Best for?

A woman is sitting in a dental chair and giving a thumbs up.

Our patients really notice a difference in the level of sensitivity they have both during and after the cleaning. They also notice significantly less bleeding during the cleaning. This is especially magnified for the patients that aren’t regular flossers. We also love this procedure for patients that have been treated for gum disease in the past.

I’d recommend this treatment for all of my patients. I’d say that 99% of patients leave the office very excited about this new procedure and so many have told their spouses, kids, and friends to make sure they ask for it at their next visit! It has really been an awesome addition to the practice. This procedure is something that can easily be added to any hygiene visit, and you’ll notice your hygienist will offer it to you from now on! It only takes about 5-10 minutes and shouldn’t add any length to your appointment time, as it really helps make the cleaning of the teeth faster.
